Want to quickly calculate the salary for your PCN team?

This online salary calculator will support your network to better understand the investment required for each role employed under the Primary Care Network Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS).

THIS IS A GUIDE

Please always check with your finance/payroll lead for 100% accuracy.

This calculator provides the maximum reimbursement for each role,
the annual salary, hourly rate, and employers' national insurance and pension calculations.

Click on the role and how many days a week they will be working, and the calculator will do the rest.

For specific payroll details, always check with your payroll lead

On 2 June 2023, the PCN DES additional roles reimbursement rates were updated, which comes into play on 1 July 2023 (see pages 60 to 73).

The calculator below reflects the updated maximum reimbursement for 23/24.

Full details are available via the NHSE PCN Ready Reckoner, which can be found here.

Frequently asked questions

1. Do we have to pay the maximum salary?

No. The calculator provides you with an indicative salary to work from.

We created this calculator to help you understand the maximum salary you could pay, and then networks can work back from there if you so choose.

2. Why doesn't the calculator have the functionality to input the actual salary we want to pay or hours we want the staff to work?

This is something we are looking into.

3. What does Not London, Inside London and Outside London mean?

The difference in these payments reflects where your network is in the country.

If your network is based inside London or just outside of London on the fringe, the cost of living will be higher than those networks not based in London. Speak to your Clinical Director if you are not sure of where your network falls.

4. What does Gross PA Max to employee mean?

This is the salary you can choose to pay your staff member.

This is the figure you will use when advertising the role and within their employment contract.

5. How is the NHS pension calculated?

Please see the guidance from NHS Business Services Authority found here.

6. Why is the hourly rate presented?

Sometimes staff and network members like to know their hourly rate.

7. Where does the money for national insurance and the pension come from?

This allocation comes from the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme, and these make up some of your employees' on-costs.

If you employ staff, this is your legal responsibility.

8. If we use a provider, do we need to pay for the employee on costs?

No. This is the provider's responsibility. They will likely charge you the maximum reimbursement so they can afford to pay their on-costs.

9. We do not offer an NHS pension. Can we still use this calculator?

You can still use this calculator to give you an indicative salary; however, your pension costs will likely be lower if you use a different scheme.

10. Why is the mental health hourly rate so low?

The hourly rate appears low as the PCNs are only reimbursed for 50% of the role.

11. Who would you recommend to support our PCN finances?

We work closely with Ema Dennis, who is an accountant. Ema helped us create this calculator. You can directly contact Ema via email: ema@primaryhealthfinancial.com

12. Can we arrange a meeting to discuss PCN Management Support?

Of course, we would love to speak to you and see how we can help, please click here to get in touch.
