The NHS 10 Year Health Plan - A Financial Analysis

Our Approach to Understanding the NHS 10 Year plan

The NHS 10 Year Plan was released on 3rd July 2025, and like many of you, I'm working to understand what this means for our health service and the communities we serve.

For those of you who follow this blog regularly, you'll know our approach: when faced with substantial policy documents, we break them down systematically. Whether it's five pages or 500, we want to dig into the who, what, why, where, how, and how much to make complex information accessible and actionable.

I (Tara) am not a journalist or policy analyst. I'm an NHS leader, just like many of you, trying to make sense of these 168 pages while balancing the day-to-day realities of the day job. I'm not trying to create clickbait or maintain academic distance - this perspective shapes how I approach these documents from the trenches of practical implementation.

What to Expect

Over the coming weeks, I'll be sharing a series of analysis pieces breaking down different aspects of the plan in a "creative way". I'm taking time to be thoughtful and thorough rather than rushing to be first.

This means:

  • Initial responses and breakdowns as I work through the document

  • Honest reflections on what this means for practice

  • Questions that arise along the way (because good analysis raises as many questions as it answers)

My commitment is to share insights that are genuinely useful for practitioners navigating the implications of this plan.

With a specific focus on the finances, let's jump in.

A Financial Analysis

The tool below represents our approach to making sense of the financial aspects of the NHS 10-year plan and highlights the investments that have been cited in the plan.

Following the recent publication of the Spending Review 2025, we also have concrete financial information that supports the implementation of the plan.

Click on the titles in the What's Financially Stated section to guide you through the tool.
