Below is an outline of the leadership programme, which will be provided in 7 sessions for PCN team leaders, senior administrators, PCN managers, operations leads, digital and transformation leads, and anyone with management responsibilities

Programme Learning Objectives

  1. Analyse the healthcare environment and system context using frameworks such as PESTEL, complexity theory, and boundary-spanning principles. 
     

  2. Use financial and resource management principles to make transparent, evidence-based decisions aligned with PCN priorities. 
     

  3. Apply core HR principles to support workforce management, role clarity, supervision and team performance. 
     

  4. Influence change and lead improvement in complex systems using structured change tools, stakeholder mapping and communication strategies. 
     

  5. Apply governance frameworks effectively to strengthen accountability, risk management and decision-making. 
     

  6. Use digital and AI tools responsibly and safely to improve productivity, decision-making and implementation practices. 
     

  7. Design integrated services collaboratively, mapping pathways, developing logic models and planning improvements with clear governance and evaluation.

Session 1: Understanding The Changing Environment

 

This session is focused on building a strong and supportive team dynamic, where responsibility and accountability are clearly defined.

 

The session will cover:

 

  1. Building a coalition.
     

  2. The five dysfunctions of a team, where we will explore how the following common issues occur and how to address them:​

  • Absence of trust.

  • Fear of conflict.

  • Lack of commitment.

  • Avoidance of team accountability.

  • Inattention to team objectives.

  • Building positive working relationships with PMs, Clinical Directors and other key roles and partners.

   3. The skills required, the challenges and opportunities for boundary-spanning roles. 

 

Session 2: PCN Finance 

 

The session will cover:

  • Knowing your numbers – The core elements of the DES.

  • Presenting information.

  • Strategic and scenario planning.

  • Workforce implications.

  • Creating systems and processes.

  • Financial governance.

Session 3: HR Principles every PCN Manager should know

 

The session will cover:

  • Recruitment and selection.

  • Learning and development.

  • Succession planning.

  • Terms and conditions.

  • Compensation and benefits.

  • Organisational culture.

Session 4: Influencing Change

This session will introduce you to simple yet effective tools to help influence and drive change and decision-making.

The session will cover:

  • Utilising quality improvement principles.

  • Complexity theory.

  • Scenario planning.

  • Using data to inform decisions.

  • Creating decision-making principles for the future.

  • Making the case for change.

 

Session 5: Governance

 

The session will cover:

  • The common issues that networks experience with Corporate and Clinical Governance.

  • The session will also include the seven pillars of clinical and non-clinical governance.

 

Session 6: PCN Management Guide to use AI

The aim is for you to walk away with greater clarity and deeper understanding, which will help you feel productive by your own definition.

The session will also walk you through how to use AI tools to

  • Create financial scenarios.

  • Reports and presentations.

  • Workforce analysis.

  • Images.

Session 7: Developing Integrated Services 

The aim is for you to walk away with greater clarity and a deeper understanding of integrated care, so you can feel productive and confident in applying it within your own context.

The session will guide you through how to:

  • Understand and assess your integrated care maturity

  • Map pathways and identify improvement opportunities

  • Build logic models and define problems clearly

  • Strengthen governance and plan next steps for delivery
