Quality Strategy for NHS-Funded Care in England: A Guide for Health and Care Professionals

On 14 July 2026, the National Quality Board published a ten-year strategy to make quality the organising principle of the NHS in England.

The strategy responds directly to calls from healthcare professionals for simplified oversight, reduced administrative burden, and clearer priorities. Rather than creating new targets, it aligns regulation, funding, data, and leadership standards into one clear framework focused on three core areas: patient safety, clinical effectiveness, and patient experience.

The strategy makes it clear that quality isn't just a top-down mandate - it’s a shared responsibility across every level of the health and care system.

For those of you involved in the strategic development of your neighbourhoods, you should be aware of national priorities and the documents mentioned.
